The weather has been kind the last week or so, much more conducive to painting outside or inside. So after a general studio cleanup, it was gratifying to see that there was a pile of finished paintings or nearly finished that could go into the Pomperaug Outdoor Painters show coming up.
Painters who have painted at least once outside with the POP group are allowed to put in up to three paintings for free. A rough headcount indicates that the show will be robust and fun to see. Right now there are 27 painters eligible to show. Artists have agreed to donate 35% to the Southbury Land Trust to help rebuild the Phillips Farm Barn.
Over the past year, POP has painted at many SLT locations and other beautiful spots:

-Platt Farm on Flood Bridge Road
-Audubon Bent of the River Center on East Flat Hill Road
-Lovdal Farm on Hulls Hill Road
-Cricket Hill Farm in Thomaston
-Ludorf Barn on West Purchase Road
-Graham Property on West Purchase Road
-Daffodil Hill Growers on Horse Fence Hill Road
-Pine Meadow Gardens on Old Waterbury Road
-Kettletown Woods on Kettletown Road
In addition, new painting opportunities have opened up because of the friendships made via POP. I've been able to paint with fellow painters active in Roxbury, New Milford, and Madison.
But back to the show--
Hopefully art collectors, art lovers, Southbury Land Trust supporters, will convene at the Southbury library to see the show in person from September 3rd to September 27th during regular library hours. It will be fun to see how so many different artists interpret the beauty of Southbury's pristine fields and farmlands. Come see!
Several POP artists will be on hand to speak about their work and what lead them to try plein air painting, as well as representatives from the Southbury Land Trust on Sunday, 9/15 from 2-4 during an open meeting. The public is welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
