Out of 80 original oil paintings displayed at the Newnan GA Center for Performing and Visual Arts, David Boyd, Jr. rocked the house with 32 sales.  In a down economy, that has to be a record.  This Georgia artist, who inherited a good dose of interest in art and a hit of humor from his dad, cartoonist David Boyd, Sr. is well on his way to making a name for himself and his collectors, one tractor, serviceable vehicle, proud ruin at a time.  Boyd and his wife, Julie, travel extensively on days when he is not teaching at The Heritage School.

They have roamed far and wide this year, visiting St. Simons, GA, "The Forgotten Coast" of Florida, Key West FL, Red Rocks AZ, among many locations, and around the backyards and green pastures of Newnan.  Boyd has sought out and captured the perfect remnants of days gone by when agriculture was all in America.  He has painted diverse subjects in graphic renditions of the symbols of our Southern youth--Moon Pies, Pepsi Cola, baseballs /gloves to name a few.  His plein air landscapes of barns, sheds, and magnificent spreading live oaks do not lack for well thought out composition and atmosphere.  No wonder his painting was selected for the juried American Impressionist Society show and he is a winner at the plein air competitions.  Look for a huge (6 feet by 8 feet) painting that will soon grace the Newnan Centre's new neighboring addition when it is completed later this year.  For more info on David or his available paintings:  http://davidboydjr.com/works
